why not

When the shadow is larger than the shape,
When the echo is louder than the voice,
When you realize that the bottom is even further,
It’s hard to find a reason why not.

When the hollowness is in your bones,
When the heartbreak is in the tones,
When the exhaustion even weighs down your fingers,
It’s hard to find a reason why not.

When resentment is the overwhelming feeling,
When regret is the effect not the cause,
When you don’t even like who you’ve become,
It’s hard to find a reason why not.

Focus on the smiles and love.
Ignore the failure you’re feeling.
You aren’t the source of disappointment.
You aren’t the sole bearer of fault.

When the lining is grey not silver,
When the cup is not half empty just gone,
When your chin is simply too heavy,
It’s hard to find a reason why not.

When someone else looks out of the mirror,
When the life doesn’t seem to be yours,
When the words are all just song lyrics,
It’s hard to find a reason why not.

When the ache is the only source of power,
When the anger is the only fuel you have,
When comparison is the only motivation,
It’s hard to find a reason why not.

Focus on their smiles and love.
Ignore the failure you’re feeling.
You aren’t the source of their disappointment.
You aren’t the sole bearer of fault.
